Drawn From Within: All Agency Show

Agassiz Baldwin Community and Maud Morgan Arts Showcase Staff and Faculty Creativity

“Drawn From Within” is a group show featuring a rather unusual group. Group shows often display the work of contest winners or artists represented by a single gallery, but the common thread that bonds these exhibition participants is their connection to a neighborhood non-profit. The Agassiz Baldwin Community is mounting its second annual all-agency exhibition in which employees—including teachers, accountants, administrative assistants, program directors and professional artists—display their artistic endeavors.

A patchwork quilt sewn of jeans and corduroy, a lion’s head jutting from the wall, a pair of salad utensils decorated with tiny glass beads, and a sculpture of a swimmer accompanied last year’s multifaceted range of drawings, paintings, prints, and photographs. Each piece gives viewers a new perspective on the people who work for non-profit agencies. As a whole, the show is a beautiful display of the talents that function behind the scenes to run children’s programs, art classes, community activities for seniors, and a neighborhood council. Ultimately, the show reaffirms that creativity takes many forms and springs from many sources.

“Drawn From Within” is on display at the Chandler Gallery from December 8, 2104 through January 9, 2015. Maud Morgan Arts is a program under the umbrella of the Agassiz Baldwin Community, a private non-profit organization with a forty-year history of quality programs and services in the Cambridge community. Maud Morgan Arts comprises a full arts program of classes and workshops for all ages, the Chandler Gallery, and a collection of original art by noted artist and community resident Maud Morgan (1903-1999). The agency works to reflect the diversity and talents of the community, bringing people together to make art, share art, and support visual arts education.
