Monotype, Monoprint, and Linoleum Relief with Nicole Stone
Instructor: Nicole Stone
Tuesdays, July 1, 2025 – August 19, 2025 (No class 8/12) 6:30 – 9:30 PM
This course covers the printmaking techniques of monotype, monoprint, and linoleum relief. Monotype and monoprint methods produce one-of-a-kind images by transferring drawings, ink, or collaged elements from one surface—such as a plate—to another, typically paper. Linoleum relief involves carving into a linoleum block; the raised (uncarved) areas are then inked and printed onto paper. These processes will be explored individually then in combination.
The class will feature a hands-on group experience supported by instructor-led technical demonstrations and will encourage creative, experimental exploration guided by students’ interests. Techniques covered will include subtractive and collage monoprint; reductive relief; multiblock registration; jigsaw relief; hand-cut stencils; and printing with a press.
Whether you’re learning printmaking for the first time or looking to expand your existing skills, this course offers a welcoming group learning environment with multiple entry points for beginners through experienced artists.
This class also includes 2 extra weeks of studio time, as well as sign-up based independent hours throughout the session. Basic materials provided; however, students are recommended to purchase their own set of carving tools (ex. Power Grip carving tools).
