At the heart of our teaching philosophy is a non-judgemental approach to art. The projects are developmentally age appropriate and designed to awaken each child’s creativity.

Programs

Snack ‘n Track

Instructor: Ian Prishwalko

Monday – Friday, 2 – 3:30 pm
Grades K – 5

If your child is unsupervised between arrival of the buses and the beginning of classes, you must sign up your child for Snack ‘n Track.

What is Snack ‘n Track?

A program offered to ensure the safe arrival and supervision of students whose parents and guardians are unable to bring them to their art class. Students registered for S’nT either attend the Baldwin School or arrive at the Baldwin School stop via Cambridge Public School bus.

Where does Snack ‘n Track take place? 

In the Agassiz Baldwin Afterschool program space, at the Baldwin School located at 28 Sacramento Street, until students walk to Maud Morgan Arts with a staff member.

Benefits of being a part of Snack ‘n Track?

-Parents/Guardians are contacted if students do not arrive at the Baldwin School as planned
-Supervision at the Baldwin School prior to class and while walking to Maud Morgan Arts
-A nutritious snack
-An opportunity to work on homework or art projects prior to class

Printmaking with Chris

Instructor: Christopher Wallace

MMA is excited to offer an introduction to printmaking with one of MMA’s established adult instructors, Chris Wallace. Chris will design the class to open the world of printmaking and all its possibilities to our middle school artists. More details to follow soon!

Kinder Kreation!

In the Kinder Kreation class, students will let their creativity take hold! Students will explore a range of projects; drawing, painting, sculpture. As well as learn and use different techniques and medium!

Winter Spin & Build

Instructor: Tiffany Playford

Grades 3 – 5
10 Mondays, 3:30 – 5:30
January 6 – March 23, 2020

Clay goes through different stages to become an ice cream bowl or a cool sculpture for your room. Learn to build abstract sculptures in clay, or center on the wheel to make useful pots. We will talk about form, function and aesthetics to make your visions come to life. You will glaze your work in beautiful colors to be fired in the kiln before you take it home.

Boston POPs!

Instructor: Kinga Borondy

Grades 1 – 2
10 Mondays, 3:30 – 5:30 pm

In this class we will explore images from some of Boston’s most iconic public art installations; from Edwin Austin Abbey and John Singer Sergeant murals at the Boston Public Library (Central Branch in Copely Square) to the monument to Hungarian Freedom Fighters by Gyuri Hollosy in Liberty Square. We will learn about these artists’ lives, study their imagery and make art in their various styles and mediums. This class will combine literature and imagery.

Ready, Set, Draw + Build!

Instructor: Jenn Wood

Grade 3-5
10 Tuesdays, 3:30 – 5:30 pm
January 7 – March 17, 2020
Excludes February 18, 2020

Students will draw imaginary objects, animals, plants, machines, games, robots, or other ideas. Students will practice different drawing techniques and styles, and build small models of some the objects they draw. At the end of the session students will form team collaborations to build final project[s].

Wood Plus: Sculpture for Kindergarteners

Instructor: Alice Turkel

Grade K

First step into industrial based arts! In this 10-week class, projects will introduce students into working with wood by using sand paper, hand tools and assemblage techniques. Woodworking lessons will cover STEAM class elements.

The Art of the Foodie

Instructor: Janet Scudder

Grades 1 – 2

Did someone say food?

The Art of the foodie will be exploring all things FOOD! This mixed media class will venture into all things food & art! Painting still lives, mixed media sandwhiches, air-dry clay and more!

Masterpieces

Instructor: Nancy Hart

Grades 3 – 5
10 Wednesdays, 3:30  – 5:30 pm
January 8 – March 18, 2020

Students will be jumping inside art history’s masterpieces, learning the styles and techniques of art masters, all the while bringing their own spin to the master works! Projects will mixed media, 2D, 3D and group work.

Wood Workers

Instructor: Andrew Goulet

Grades 1 – 2

Students will learn techniques for using hand tools (saws, hammers, nails etc), as well as being covering STEAM class elements. Introducing measuring, scale/proportions and creative problem solving. This class is designed for new and returning students.

Mud Madness

How many shapes can you make?

The sensory pleasure of clay is unsurpassed, particularly for little fingers just starting to explore the world.

Because clay can be shaped into anything, it simultaneously stimulates the imagination, and builds fine motor coordination.

Winter Color Intensive: Draw/Paint

Expressive imagination and close observation come into play through exploring a wide variety of media in works on paper. People, animals, and objects in nature, dreams, fantasies and abstract lines and forms will be suggested as stimulating and challenging subjects.

Making an Impression: Linocut Printmaking

Create unique patterns and designs using linocut techniques to add imagery and texture to your art.

City Builders

Fairytale Fridays

Students will explore far away lands, and beings of myth and legend.  Stories will inspire their creativity and mix media projects will unleash their imaginations.

Stop Animation: In partnership with Media Arts Studio

Grade 5-8

This program is in partnership with the Cambridge Media Arts Studio with guest instructor Joshua Arévalo. Students will create stop motion scenery and film in the MMA 2D studio. Winter Clay Play

Use clay to mold, shape and create! This class will hone in on fine motor skills to sculpt animals and creatures! Decorate your work with marks and patterns, then glaze your pieces to make then bright and colorful!

Woodshop

Instructor: Eugene Zeleny

Grades 3 – 5

Instructor Eugene has designed a workflow where students will have a variety of woodworking projects. Such as musical instruments, coat hangers, rubber band cards and more! Class is designed for new and returning students.

SaturCLAY

Instructor: Kinga Borondy
