At the heart of our teaching philosophy is a non-judgemental approach to art. The projects are developmentally age appropriate and designed to awaken each child’s creativity.

Programs

Spring Snack ‘n Track

Instructor: Ian Prishwalko

Monday – Friday, 2 – 3:30 pm
Grades K – 5

If your child is unsupervised between arrival of the buses and the beginning of classes, you must sign up your child for Snack ‘n Track.

What is Snack ‘n Track?

A program offered to ensure the safe arrival and supervision of students whose parents and guardians are unable to bring them to their art class. Students registered for S’nT either attend the Baldwin School or arrive at the Baldwin School stop via Cambridge Public School bus.

Where does Snack ‘n Track take place? 

In the Agassiz Baldwin Afterschool program space, at the Baldwin School located at 28 Sacramento Street, until students walk to Maud Morgan Arts with a staff member.

Benefits of being a part of Snack ‘n Track?

-Parents/Guardians are contacted if students do not arrive at the Baldwin School as planned
-Supervision at the Baldwin School prior to class and while walking to Maud Morgan Arts
-A nutritious snack
-An opportunity to work on homework or art projects prior to class

InstaPRINTS!

InstaPrints is designed to open the world of printmaking and all its possibilities to our young artists. After utilizing various printmaking techniques, methods, and materials, student will develop their imagery and be able to produce multiple copies of their work, instantly!

If your 5th grade child is not being dropped off to art classes by a parent or guardian, they must be enrolled in the
Snack ‘n Track program, or have an signed Unsupervised Arrival form.

 

 

 


Imagination Portfolio

There is no limit to your imagination!

In “Imagination Portfolio,” students will be able to put all their creations in one place in the form of an accordion book. We will draw, paint, and print exploring themes such as “Home,” and “Dreams,” and delve into any other personal interests that should arise. We will add pages to our books weekly, all the while working back into previous entries to develop what we’ve already created.

Spring Spin & Build

Instructor: Tiffany Playford

Grades 3 – 5
10 Mondays, 3:30 – 5:30

Clay goes through different stages to become an ice cream bowl or a cool sculpture for your room. Learn to build abstract sculptures in clay, or center on the wheel to make useful pots. We will talk about form, function and aesthetics to make your visions come to life. You will glaze your work in beautiful colors to be fired in the kiln before you take it home.

Lost and Found Collage

Instructor: Kinga Borondy

Grades 1 – 2

An old postcard, a photo, a ticket can trigger a memory or another place in time. This class will use pieces of ephemera to create art and recall the past.

BooksmArt

Instructor: Aleigha Howland

Grades 3rd-5th
10 Tuesdays, 3:30-5:30pm

Introduction to book making and binding. Students will fold, bind and bring together hardcover books with decorative paper.

Spring Wood Plus: Sculpture for Kindergarteners

First step into industrial based arts! In this 10-week class, projects will introduce students into working with wood by using sand paper, hand tools and assemblage techniques. Woodworking lessons will cover STEAM class elements.

Exploring Ancient Art

Exploring Ancient Art

In this class students will explore the interdisciplinary connections between ancient art and cultures! Traveling around the world t: Greece, Egypt, Viking, Maya and more!

Wood Workers

Instructor: Andrew Goulet

Grades 1 – 2

Students will learn techniques for using hand tools (saws, hammers, nails etc), as well as being covering STEAM class elements. Introducing measuring, scale/proportions and creative problem solving. This class is designed for new and returning students.

Hands in the Mud

How many shapes can you make?

The sensory pleasure of clay is unsurpassed, particularly for little fingers just starting to explore the world. Because clay can be shaped into anything, it simultaneously stimulates the imagination, and builds fine motor coordination.

Spring Color Intensive: Draw/Paint

Expressive imagination and close observation come into play through exploring a wide variety of media in works on paper. People, animals, and objects in nature, dreams, fantasies and abstract lines and forms will be suggested as stimulating and challenging subjects.

Hot off the Press

Extra! Extra! Read all about it!

This class will be focused on art inspired by journalism, printmaking and typography! Kinga will blend her background of journalism and art to take student’s on a journey of visual and written  communication.

Mixed Media Madness – Recycle Art

Students will explore and experiment with mixed media techniques to create dazzling artwork out of found and recycled materials. Artists will create ‘zero waste’ sculptural projects while combining elements of STEAM and building on-site installations.

Spring is in the air!

A time for growth and renew, students can learn about how the plants and animals that awaken from their winter slumber by visiting our local community garden. Student will then explore increasingly colorful projects inspired by the seasonal changes they see!

Piece Together: Collage & Mosaics

Grades 3 -5

Explore materials, pattern, color and texture

An introduction to mosaics and collage! Use pieces of paper, wood, stone, metal and found objects to create a larger artwork! Designers look to color, texture and other properties of materials to help them make creative decisions and imagery.

Little Printers

Instructor: Aleigha Howland

Kindergarten

Printmaking made accessible for our youngest students! Students will explore the process on making multiple prints using techniques such as relief, transfer and an all time favorite sunlight! ( Cyanotypes!) Students will also be encouraged to expand their creativity by adding additional materials, and use a variety of mediums to make mixed media pieces!

SciART

Instructor: Andrew Goulet

Grade 3 – 5

Join artist and instructor Andrew Goulet as this class explores the relationship between nature, science and art. This mixed media course includes field trips to the Harvard Museum of Natural History.

Spring Clay Play

Instructor: Kinga Borondy

Grades 1 – 2

Use clay to mold, shape and create! This class will hone in on fine motor skills to sculpt animals and creatures! Decorate your work with marks and patterns, then glaze your pieces to make then bright and colorful!
